Awards & Certificates
McCORDIC AWARD
The McCordic Award was established in 1980 and has been awarded each year at the Annual Meeting to recognize an outstanding contribution to the service of school business. Candidates may be nominated by any member of the Association or by an educational organization within the province.The Board of Directors may also nominate candidates.Notwithstanding the requirement of membership in the Association as a qualification for nomination, the selection panel has the right to name a non-member as recipient of the Award, when in its opinion, the contribution of the nominee to the service of school boards has been one of outstanding dedication and exception merit. Criteria and nomination forms are forwarded to the membership in early January. Deadline for receipt of nominations is third week in February.
Wm. WALES AWARD
The Wm. Wales Award was established in 1985 to be presented by the Operations, Maintenance and Construction Committee to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in a Plant function. The criteria includes a) individual must be an active or honorary member of OASBO b) individual is or has been a plant business official for a period exceeding three years and c) individual has contributed to and shared knowledge of plant facility operations and has been dedicated to the aims and objects of the OMC Committee.Non-members of OASBO may be considered by the selection committee provided that they have made a significant contribution in the area of school operations, maintenance and construction.Nomination forms are forwarded to the membership in the spring.
AWARD OF MERIT
An Award of Merit may be granted to active members of the Association who have distinguished themselves through meritorious service to the Association.
An individual must be nominated by a Standing or ad hoc committee or by six active members of the Association. The nomination must be written on a form available from the OASBO Office, and should specify the individual's contributions and the occasion upon which the award is to be presented. All nominations will be considered by the OASBO Board of Directors at its regular meetings. Upon approval by the Board of Directors, the award may be presented by the sponsoring Standing or ad hoc committee to the recipient.
A member may receive more than one Award during a career.
CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
A Standing Committee may establish an award entitled Certificate of Merit to recognize a significant contribution by an OASBO member through participation on the committee. The purpose of the award, selection criteria and process shall be subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION
A Certificate of Appreciation may be granted to an OASBO member who has served the Association through a specific task such as furthering the aims of a Standing Committee, organizing a workshop event, etc.
The request is usually made by the Committee Chair to the OASBO office 2 to 3 weeks prior to presentation of the Certificate. The Certificate is prepared by the OASBO office.
CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION
A Certificate of Recognition may be granted to an OASBO member who has contributed to the Association through continuous service on a Standing Committee, the Board of Directors, etc.
The request is usually made by the Committee Chair to the OASBO office 2 to 3 weeks prior to presentation of the Certificate. The Certificate is prepared by the OASBO office.
OASBO SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
In 1988 the OASBO Board of Directors established a Scholarship to be awarded annually in the year of graduation from a secondary school to a son or daughter of an Active member of the Association.
The student will be enrolled in a Canadian university or college in a full-time course of study leading to a degree or diploma which is related to business operations.
The amount of the scholarship fund was authorized by the Board in 1995 to a maximum of $2000. The number and amount of the individual Scholarship is decided by the Executive Committee.
The OASBO Executive Committee selects scholarship winner(s) and an announcement is made through the Association's newsletter The Advocate.
